Born in San Diego, California in the late 60's, L.J. Davis has been writing since she was seven years old.
Much of her early childhood was spent exploring the outdoors, particularly on her grandparent's dairy farm. Her short story, 1975, describes how her experiences in the outdoors helped mold her into the storyteller she is today.
In 1989, while attending the University of San Diego, Davis' family underwent personal tragedy when her only brother was struck by a truck while jogging. Following extensive physical therapy, and a unprecedented amount of community faith and support, L.J's brother Lee learned to walk, eat, and talk again. Although the victim of traumatic brain injury, Lee has lived to see another day. In 1995, Davis' family again suffered personal tragedy when the patriarch of the family, Larry Johnson, died from esophageal cancer.
As a writer, the tragic experiences faced by Davis' family have only strengthened her ability to write stories that look at the emotional side of being human. As a mother, she is especially interested in forging experiences early on that will help empower and propel children to see the good in themselves and in the world around them. All of her stories explore the connections between self and the environment and self and others.
Following the publication of her first children's book, A Simple Brown Leaf, in December 2004, L.J. will focus her attention on completing the Book of Eve, which retells the biblical Genesis and Garden of Eden stories from a matriarchal perspective.
Davis is a graduate from the University of San Diego and holds a B.A. in English and a M.Ed Counseling. She resides in San Diego with her husband and two daughters.
